Wednesday Women: My Mom: "Food is what brings us all together."

Almost home for the holidays...

One of my favorite memories of the holidays is when my Mom came to visit me in Los Angeles.

Click to watch this episode as I share what it was like growing up with an Italian Mom who was also a cook.

Throwback Thursday: You're so "Chocolate Bar" – Small Kid with BIG Ideas…Changing the world one book at a time!

CHOCOLATE BAR
Changing the world one book at a time
by 8-year-old
Dylan Siegal

"Chocolate Bar" means awesome to 8-year-old Dylan Siegel who has raised more than a 1,000,000 dollars thru sales of his book – all toward curing his best friend Jonah's rare liver disease.

I met Dylan at a YouTube SpaceLA Creator Academy course last month. Although Dylan was the youngest in our class – you could tell right away that he was not your typical 8-year-old kid.

Dylan's mission is to cure his best friend Jonah's rare disease and show kids everywhere that their big ideas can change the world.

Most of what I tried to do with Throwback Thursday is feature kids doing great things in the world. What a great kid, a great friend to Jonah and a perfect person to feature on my Thursday blog post.  If only we could all remember what it was like to be fearless: To think - why not?! And then write a book that raises over a million dollars to help cure a disease. Why NOT be so "Chocolate Bar".

Wednesday Women: Laura Wainer Founder / Director of SF Web Fest

I'm heading to San Francisco this week to mentor and moderate panels at the First Annual SF Web Festival taking place this weekend: June 5-7, 2015. So for this Wednesday blog post I wanted to highlight the founder and director of the festival, Laura Wainer – a dynamic and creative producer.

What makes Laura ideal to highlight in our Women on Wednesday series is not only her 15 years experience working in environmental sciences, specializing in wetland ecology and restoration design for tidal marsh and upland ecotone in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was also a senior level scientist effectively planning, delegating, and supervising multiple projects. And most recently Laura created a new role for herself as the creator and founder of the First Annual SF Web Fest Foundation. I am always in awe of anyone that chooses to reinvent and follow a new passion.

Laura established this festival as a non-profit, created a Board of Directors, and signed on multiple award winning speakers and presenters including: Webby’s founder Tiffany Shlain, YouTube celebrity Tim Schmoyer, Bernie Su, creator of the highly-acclaimed series The Lizzie Bennett Diaries, Endemol Beyond president Will Keenan, and closing speaker Issa Rae. Ms. Rae, creator of the hit web series “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl”, has earned over 25 million views and nearly 200,000 subscribers on YouTube, and was twice named to the Forbes “30 under 30 List”.

“San Francisco is a creative community and is renowned for being the epicenter of the digital world,” says Laura Wainer. "This is a perfect time to leverage SF’s abundant resources and launch this event. People want to engage with the real movers and shakers in the industry. The goal is to merge the tech and film industries and grow audiences.”

So I'm happy to help promote this festival and help grow this audience. Read on for more information and details:

Sunday Saying: Cry a River….

I'm hoping to make the Sunday's posts quick notes of inspiration.  I just came across this one thanks to a new friend, Karla Cipriano …it certainly is now one of my favorites.

What is Travel Tuesday?

Tuesdays are dedicated to Travel & Tourism and with a series like KRUSING AMERICA -
I wanted to share what I learned from so many Tourism Bureaus, Travel Advisers and Travelers along the way. I hope to create a place where I can help you in your travels.

We will find the best travel ideas & connections and post them here. But first –

According to Wikipedia - Travel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Travel is the movement of people between relatively distant geographical locations, and can involve travel by foot, bicycle, automobile, train, boat, airplane, or other means, with or without luggage, and can be one way or round trip.Travel can also include relatively short stays between successive movements.
PURPOSE & MOTIVATION to travel include
  • pleasure
  • relaxation
  • discovery and exploration
  • getting to know other cultures
  • and taking personal time for building interpersonal relationships
So my question is - what does travel mean to you? Where would you go if you could?

CONNECT with us. JOIN the conversation
And we're still looking for the story that will be the next KRUSING AMERICA episode.
So please share.
