I'm heading to San Francisco this week to mentor and moderate panels at the First Annual SF Web Festival taking place this weekend: June 5-7, 2015. So for this Wednesday blog post I wanted to highlight the founder and director of the festival, Laura Wainer – a dynamic and creative producer.
What makes Laura ideal to highlight in our Women on Wednesday series is not only her 15 years experience working in environmental sciences, specializing in wetland ecology and restoration design for tidal marsh and upland ecotone in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was also a senior level scientist effectively planning, delegating, and supervising multiple projects. And most recently Laura created a new role for herself as the creator and founder of the First Annual SF Web Fest Foundation. I am always in awe of anyone that chooses to reinvent and follow a new passion.
Laura established this festival as a non-profit, created a Board of Directors, and signed on multiple award winning speakers and presenters including: Webby’s founder Tiffany Shlain, YouTube celebrity Tim Schmoyer, Bernie Su, creator of the highly-acclaimed series The Lizzie Bennett Diaries, Endemol Beyond president Will Keenan, and closing speaker Issa Rae. Ms. Rae, creator of the hit web series “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl”, has earned over 25 million views and nearly 200,000 subscribers on YouTube, and was twice named to the Forbes “30 under 30 List”.
“San Francisco is a creative community and is renowned for being the epicenter of the digital world,” says Laura Wainer. "This is a perfect time to leverage SF’s abundant resources and launch this event. People want to engage with the real movers and shakers in the industry. The goal is to merge the tech and film industries and grow audiences.”
So I'm happy to help promote this festival and help grow this audience. Read on for more information and details:
