Saturday Study: BOYS TOWN – Saving Children, Healing Families

Help plant the seeds of change at BOYS TOWN
I received in the mail a package
of "Forget-Me-Nots" with an inscription that read:

Help plant the seeds of change at BOYS TOWN

I was not familiar with this organization so I had to look them up…Wow! They've actually been around since 1917 and doing so much to help children and families.

PREFECT for my blog highlighting great people and organizations doing amazing things in the world.

BOYS TOWN – Saving Children, Healing Families

For nearly a century Boys Town has given at-risk children the family, support and care they need to overcome their circumstances and realize their potential. They are driven by an unwavering belief that every child and every family has the potential to succeed, regardless of their circumstances.

For more information please visit  www.boystown.org

WHAT THEY DO –
Boys Town Overview
Right now, in communities throughout the country, hundreds of thousands of children are living in fear, seeking guidance and in desperate need of compassion. Powerful forces are also at work tearing at the fabric of our families. Wherever these children and families are hurting, Boys Town is helping. With the support of our generous donors, we’re reuniting kids with their families, finding foster homes for others, providing a Boys Town family for those with nowhere else to turn, and still others are receiving help at home where they can remain together as families.

MORE ABOUT BOYS TOWN –

While ministering to the homeless on the streets of Omaha, Nebraska, Father Edward Joseph Flanagan developed a lifelong interest in young people and their struggle to grow into responsible, productive members of society. Today, with your help, we continue Father Flanagan's mission of saving children and healing families.

Boys Town is also home to parenting and child behavior experts who have developed a wealth of original content over the years that is available for free in our For Parents section. From toddlers to teens, if you have a question you need addressed, chances are we've got an article, video or Q&A on the subject.

Throwback Thursday: Inquisitive Nature + Wanderlust

What happens when an inquisitive nature meets wanderlust?
The life of KRUSING AMERICA creator / producer / director Linda Kruse

Linda Kruse N9 - Northern Outpost Kuwait DMZ 2003
From a very early age I knew I wanted to travel the world and learn as much as possible, meet people and learn what makes them who they are today.

I recently found this picture of me on the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) of Kuwait. I was filming on the boarders of Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait in 2003. I was working on a "peace-keeping" documentary when I learned we were no longer 'at peace' and about to invade Iraq.

So much for the "peace-keeping" idea! It may have delayed things then but it certainly didn't stop me. Even today, I still want to know and understand why things are the way they are?

And in fact, now I make content that highlights people, places and organizations committed to learning and finding peaceful ways to function in todays world. My hope is for my readers, viewers, followers and subscribers to find their inquisitive nature and visit with me.

My Throwback Thursday is a reminder to find your purpose in life. Maybe start with figuring out your personality traits: For me - it's an 'Inquisitive Nature' meets 'Wanderlust'.

Inquisitive Nature means being very curious, always wanting to find out details. To know what's going on and asking a lot of questions. Wanderlust is a strong, innate impulse or desire to travel or explore the world often in order to find oneself.

I wouldn't want it any other way.

I'm curious what motivates you to travel? What experiences have shaped who you are today - CONNECT with us and share your travel stories on our Social Media links below.

Wednesday Women: Laura Wainer Founder / Director of SF Web Fest

I'm heading to San Francisco this week to mentor and moderate panels at the First Annual SF Web Festival taking place this weekend: June 5-7, 2015. So for this Wednesday blog post I wanted to highlight the founder and director of the festival, Laura Wainer – a dynamic and creative producer.

What makes Laura ideal to highlight in our Women on Wednesday series is not only her 15 years experience working in environmental sciences, specializing in wetland ecology and restoration design for tidal marsh and upland ecotone in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was also a senior level scientist effectively planning, delegating, and supervising multiple projects. And most recently Laura created a new role for herself as the creator and founder of the First Annual SF Web Fest Foundation. I am always in awe of anyone that chooses to reinvent and follow a new passion.

Laura established this festival as a non-profit, created a Board of Directors, and signed on multiple award winning speakers and presenters including: Webby’s founder Tiffany Shlain, YouTube celebrity Tim Schmoyer, Bernie Su, creator of the highly-acclaimed series The Lizzie Bennett Diaries, Endemol Beyond president Will Keenan, and closing speaker Issa Rae. Ms. Rae, creator of the hit web series “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl”, has earned over 25 million views and nearly 200,000 subscribers on YouTube, and was twice named to the Forbes “30 under 30 List”.

“San Francisco is a creative community and is renowned for being the epicenter of the digital world,” says Laura Wainer. "This is a perfect time to leverage SF’s abundant resources and launch this event. People want to engage with the real movers and shakers in the industry. The goal is to merge the tech and film industries and grow audiences.”

So I'm happy to help promote this festival and help grow this audience. Read on for more information and details:
