Friday Foodie: Great places to eat in Port Townsend, WA

During our time filming KRUSING AMERICA we came across so many amazing places to eat in the wonderful Northwestern small town of Port Townsend, WA.

Their concentration on local sourcing for fish, support for local farmers, emphasizing the true value of high quality, locally-produced food is what makes this town ideal for our Friday Foodie Blog post.

Located on the Puget Sound - Port Townsend's restaurant owners and chefs focus on identifying and selecting products that reflect good nutrition, respect for the environment, fostering local production, and emphasizing community co-operation.

Visit some of our favorite eating establishments in Port Townsend, WA:

Elevated Ice Cream

Dogs a Foot

Silverwater Cafe

Lanza's Ristorante

Sweet Laurette Cafe & Bistro

Sweet Laurette Cafe & Bistro is focused on being a farm to table restaurant, sourcing locally from farms, fisherfolk, and foragers.

Sweet Laurette started as a small Patisserie in Port Townsend in April 2001. We have grown to a 70 seat bistro restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a cafe that serves pastries and espresso.

Sweet Laurette is also the premier provider of wedding & occasion cakes on the Olympic peninsula.

Friday Foodie: Off the Eatin' Path in Vegas

Off the Eatin' Path

The best places to eat are usually the little hole-in-the-walls…and one of my new favorites is "Lotus of Siam" way off the strip in Las Vegas. I was doing interviews and reporting at the National Broadcasters Show in Vegas this week and my client suggested we go to "Lotus".  It tastes even better than it looks! This Thai place is definately a must if you're Krusing through Las Vegas.

Family recipes and a vast wine list from this owner-operated Thai eatery in a strip-mall!

Fried Sea Bass on Drunken Noodles

Tom Yum Shrimp
Garlic Shrimp

Lotus of Siam

We're always looking for other great places to try -

We'd love to hear from you.

Saturday Study: Learning from My Mom

Each Saturday I try share something I learned along the way. Today I realized: who better to learn from than my sweet, awesome, little Italian Mom. I'm visiting with my parents this week and no matter how old I get – a day with my Mom is always a learning experience.

I include recipes and videos each week on my Friday Foodie blog day but since so much of my cooking is inspired by my little Momma, I had to share a few today. As you will see below, my Mom has the most amazing garden and uses as much as she can each day for her everyday recipes.

Enjoy!

Good Friday Foodie: Good Fish & Chips from the Knights of Columbus

Good Friday is a good time for good Fish & Chips from The Knights of Columbus

My Dad has been in the Knights of Columbus for several years now. Many of the guys in his chapter are from retired Military and Veterans - like my father. One of his favorite things to do besides golfing - is working the Friday Fish Fry.

If you haven't gone to one of their Fish Fry's - you definitely need to go! Find a local Knights of Columbus hall and visit. Nothing fancy just good food, good people on Good Friday or any Friday.

The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in New HavenConnecticut, in 1882, it was named in honor of the mariner Christopher Columbus. Originally serving as a mutual benefit society to low-income immigrant Catholics, it developed into a fraternal benefit society dedicated to providing charitable services, promoting Catholic education and actively defending Roman Catholicism in various nations. There are more than 1.85 million members in nearly 15,000 councils, with nearly 200 councils on college campuses. Membership is limited to "practical"Catholic men aged 18 or older. Membership consists of four different degrees, each exemplifying a different principle of the Order. The Order is a member of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights.

        • Chopped spicy salami
        • Sliced Swiss Cheese
        • Finely Chopped Parsley
