I was looking for something to write for my Saturday Study and since it was the one year anniversary of the death of my sweet cat, Rikki - I did a search for "grieving the loss of a pet" and came across this website: HealthGuide.org
Their mission is to help our readers strengthen their mental and emotional health, build better relationships, and take charge of their lives. They serve over 65 million people a year – free to all, and free of advertising or corporate influences.
I found some really useful tools not just for grieving the loss of a Pet but for most everything type of situation one might find themselves in…I am also the Consulting Producer on a feature film called NO LETTING GO due out next year based on a true-events about a family dealing with Mental Health issues with one of their 3 sons.
Today we have more resources so I wanted to share this one on my Saturday Study Blog.

HelpGuide is dedicated to Morgan Segal whose tragic suicide could have been avoided if she’d had the hope that comes with access to better information and the tools needed to balance her emotions and regain control of her life.
Morgan Leslie Segal, died in 1996 at the age of 29. For six years, she grappled with a condition that started as low self-esteem and evolved into major depression. In her last years, Morgan’s only real friend was her laptop. She wrote stories and poems and researched information to try to understand her condition.
The messages she got from both her therapist and the Internet were clear and consistent: the best remedy for emotional problems is antidepressants. She was given a variety of SSRIs and other medications. She stuck with this therapy even as her condition deteriorated. Finally, in desperation, she committed suicide.
HelpGuide was launched in 1999, inspired by our belief that Morgan’s tragedy could have been avoided if she’d had access to unbiased, reliable information, the right tools to help her understand her emotions, and a sense of hope that comes from being provided different ways to overcome problems.
Our mission is to provide research-driven, impartial tools and information to help our readers strengthen their mental and emotional health, improve their relationships, and take charge of their lives. HelpGuide now serves over 65 million people a year—free to all, and free of advertising or corporate influences.

Given the intense bond most of us share with our animals, it’s natural to feel devastated by feelings of grief and sadness when a pet dies. While some people may not understand the depth of feeling you had for your pet, you should never feel guilty or ashamed about grieving for an animal friend. Instead, use these healthy ways to cope with the loss, comfort yourself and others, and begin the process of moving on.
